A Symposium of Georgian Society & Culture in Printed Form
The Map House cordially invites you to The Paper Age – an exhibition exploring the prints in our collection that played a pivotal role in fashioning and influencing the culture of The Georgian period. We will be showcasing the great satirical engravings of William Hogarth, and the exquisite botanical works by Dr Robert Thornton – accompanied by other fine publishers and engravers of the time – in an exhibition running from the 26th June until the 1st July at The Map House.
We would like to introduce you to this exhibition with a sneak preview of one the seminal works by William Hogarth – Gin Lane and Beer Street. This pair exemplifies both the quality and originality of Hogarth’s work, displaying the social criticism for which he is celebrated and opening up the streets of London for the amusement of its inhabitants.
Alongside our prints will hang the formative maps of London from the period, revealing the growth of the rapidly developing city.
The exhibition will be held between 26th June – 1st July
All works are for sale.
